چکیده

Design for maintenance and maintenance operations become increasingly important in recent years. In the capital-intensive industry, maintenance expenditures can add up to several times the initial investment. In order to be competitive in their business, owners and users of these capital goods have to take into account the total life cycle cost at investment (the lifespan of a train is about 30 years), the renewal decisions for their installations and the logistic management of the spare parts. Erroneous or unstructured initial spare parts assortment decision-making part of the logistic management can lead to undesired downtime and increases the risk of obsolete or unavailable components. Decision making is further complicated by nonexistent data in the early design phase and several information management problems. Based on a case study at NedTrain (the largest maintainer of rolling stock in the Netherlands) and literature review a Decision Support Model to structure and to improve the initial spare part assortment for the rolling stock maintenance is proposed.

A Systematic Approach to Internal Spare Parts Management by Paul

Internal spare parts management is a universal issue faced by all manufacturers, and involves decision-making and planning across a highly complex and heterogeneous group of thousands of items. Spare parts exhibit intermittent demand and a variety of prices, lead times, and potential downtime costs that pose challenges for planning and control. Managers can facilitate spare parts decision-makin...

Determining maintenance system requirements by viewpoint of availability and lean thinking: A MODM approach

Since lean concept has appeared many works have been done on decreasing or even eliminating of wastes such as extra inventory. Although these studies have not taken into account expected availability seriously. So in this paper, a Multiple Objective Decision Making (MODM) model has been developed by viewpoint of these subjects. They are decreasing wastes and increasing system availability. Wast...

Multi-factor failure mode critically analysis using TOPSIS

The paper presents a multi-factor decision-making approach for prioritizing failure modes as an alternative to traditional approach of failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA). The approach is based on the ‘technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution’ (TOPSIS). The priority ranking is formulated on the basis of six parameters (failure occurrence, non-detection, maintainability...

Integrating reliability centered maintenance and spare parts stock control

In the classical approach to determine how many spare parts to stock, the spare parts shortage costs or the minimum fill rate are a key factor. A difficulty with this approach lies in the estimation of these shortage costs or the determination of appropriate minimum fill rates. In an attempt to overcome this problem, we propose to use the data gathered in reliability centered maintenance studie...
